Queens Borough President Donovan Richards is ready to announce he’s allotting $2.3 million for hydroponics labs in 9 faculties throughout the borough throughout his State of the Borough speech on Friday, the Eagle has realized.
The funding will probably be a part of Richards’ Fiscal 12 months 2025 finances, and can hopefully promote a greater understanding of agriculture and wholesome consuming in Queens faculties.
The labs, which use a “mineral-based nutrient resolution to nourish vegetation in a soil-less setting,” in keeping with the Mamie Fay College in Ditmars, will permit Queens college students to get hands-on expertise with primary farming programs.
The 9 new hydroponics labs will go to The Louis F. Simeone College and The Tommie L. Agee Instructional Campus in Elmhurst, The Gwendoline N.
